Enriching Salt Spring's Artistic Reputaton
About Salt Spring Arts Council
The Salt Spring Arts Council (formerly known as Gulf Islands Community Arts Council) is a community organization serving residents of Salt Spring Island. Its home is Mahon Hall, a heritage building on 114 Rainbow Road, overlooking the village of Ganges and Ganges Harbour.
The Arts Council is widely known for its support of ArtCraft and WinterCraft galleries highlighting the talent of its island artists. We also support budding artists through grants and funding to the “Artist in the Class” Programme.
By providing funding, material and organizational support to a broad range of groups and individuals, the Arts Council fosters a positive environment for visual and performing artists, artisans, writers and performers — enriching the lives of all Salt Spring Island residents.
As part of a province-wide network of community arts councils, we distribute provincial funding available to arts and crafts groups, and consult with similar organizations throughout B.C.
Our Mission
The Arts Council supports and encourages the arts though partnership, advocacy, and facilitation. Our mandate includes:
- Encouraging participation and excellence in the visual and performing arts.
- Initiating and championing artistic programs and events, and using Mahon Hall as an asset to fuel these cultural opportunities.
- Building on successes and using Mahon Hall to celebrate and communicate with the community.
